   The problem with claiming this principle as an underlying principle of Social Security is that  the original legislation provided benefits to a slew of seniors who hadn't paid into it anywhere near what they would be getting out of it (even with the then-likely life expectancies) which was made possible, of course, by demographics that led to increasing numbers in the workplace.
